Galloway Township Man Criminal Cases

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, a Galloway Township man who committed new crimes in 2024 while awaiting sentencing on earlier convictions was given a 10-year jail sentence on Monday. Judge Donna Taylor sentenced Manuel Alicea, 32, to a concurrent six-year sentence for robbery and will not be eligible for parole for at least five years on a charge of specified persons not to possess guns. In April, he entered a guilty plea. Haram Shahid, Alicea According to a news release from the Prosecutor's Office, he will stay in the Atlantic County jail until he is sent to prison.

Forked River Drowns In Rip Current

According to authorities, a 28-year-old male from Forked River perished after becoming entangled in a rip current. Four people were caught in a rip current on East 21st Street at 2:28 p.m. on Friday, prompting the Ship Bottom Police Department, Ship Bottom Fire Department, Surf City Fire, and emergency services to attend.

Recereation Complex Makeover

The $2.07 million makeover of the 97th Street Recreation Complex, which aims to create a more accessible and contemporary recreational facility for residents and visitors, was completed on Saturday, and local and county authorities gathered to celebrate. Mayor Tim Carney, Cape May County Commissioner Bobby Barr, and other local politicians attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to announce the upgrades. An open space grant from Cape May County provided $1.1 million for the project.

Women Of Wonder Award

Nominations for the 2026 Women of Wonder Award are being accepted by the Atlantic Cape Community College Foundation and the Cape May County Women's Commission. Nominations must be submitted by Monday, July 27. On Thursday, November 12 at 11:30 a.m., The Flanders Hotel in Ocean City, NJ will host a joyful charity luncheon to recognize this year's Women of Wonder Award awardees.
