Galloway Township Man Criminal Cases

According to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, a Galloway Township man who committed new crimes in 2024 while awaiting sentencing on earlier convictions was given a 10-year jail sentence on Monday. Judge Donna Taylor sentenced Manuel Alicea, 32, to a concurrent six-year sentence for robbery and will not be eligible for parole for at least five years on a charge of specified persons not to possess guns. In April, he entered a guilty plea. Haram Shahid, Alicea According to a news release from the Prosecutor's Office, he will stay in the Atlantic County jail until he is sent to prison.

Forked River Drowns In Rip Current

According to authorities, a 28-year-old male from Forked River perished after becoming entangled in a rip current. Four people were caught in a rip current on East 21st Street at 2:28 p.m. on Friday, prompting the Ship Bottom Police Department, Ship Bottom Fire Department, Surf City Fire, and emergency services to attend.

Recereation Complex Makeover

The $2.07 million makeover of the 97th Street Recreation Complex, which aims to create a more accessible and contemporary recreational facility for residents and visitors, was completed on Saturday, and local and county authorities gathered to celebrate. Mayor Tim Carney, Cape May County Commissioner Bobby Barr, and other local politicians attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony to announce the upgrades. An open space grant from Cape May County provided $1.1 million for the project.

AC Police Seek Info In Teen's Shooting

The Atlantic City Police Department is investigating a shooting that wounded a teen girl last week. BreakingAC.com reports police were called to the 600 block of New York Avenue at 11:43 p.m. Tuesday for the report of a female shot. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 609-347-5858. Information also may be texted anonymously to tip411 (847411), beginning the text with ACPD.

AC Police Officers Credited With Saving A Fellow Officer's Life

Atlantic City police officers went from serving a search warrant to saving a life Tuesday, after a suspect opened fire and wounded two officers.One officer was saved from a shot to the head by his ballistic helmet. BreakingAC.com reports Sgt. Christian Ivanov suffered a life-threatening wound to his upper leg, and was bleeding profusely.With no time to wait, the officers loaded him into the back of a SWAT van and rushed him to the Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center.They rendered aid the entire way, packing the wound, which was too high on Ivanov’s leg to make a tourniquet, according to Atlantic City PBA Local 24 President Albert Floriani.

Ocean City Fishing Pier Reopens

The reopening of Ocean City Fishing Pier, which underwent renovations, was marked with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday by the Cape May County Bridge Commission commissioners and local leaders. The 500-foot fishing pier at the foot of the Ocean City-Longport Bridge on Ocean Drive was revitalized by the roughly $700,000 rehabilitation project, which was entirely funded by the Commission. New concrete picnic tables and benches, as well as renovated trash cans and fish cleaning stations, were among the improvements.

Retiring Atlantic County Administrator Honored For Service

Absecon Man Facing Charges In Burglary Probe

An Absecon man is facing multiple criminal charges after a residential burglary investigation led police to recover stolen property and arrest a suspect who allegedly attempted to flee from officers.The investigation began Thursday evening after officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Haddon Avenue for a reported burglary at a residence. Shore News Network reports officers were dispatched at approximately 6:47 p.m. Thursday after receiving a report that an unknown individual had forcibly entered a home earlier in the afternoon.Investigators determined the burglary occurred at approximately 4:15 p.m. and that personal property was stolen from inside the residence. The investigation lead police to 27 year old Kenneth D. Davis of Absecon.

Atlantic City Food Truck Festival Upcoming

More than a dozen food trucks will gather at Brighton Park for the Atlantic City Food Truck Festival on June 27-28. The free two-day event will feature a variety of food vendors and takes place at Brighton Park, just steps from the beach and Boardwalk. It runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, June 28.

Absecon Man Pleads Guilty In Domestic Case

28 year old Omar Wallace of Absecon has pleaded guilty to aggravated assault on a domestic violence victim and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. On April 20, 2024, Pleasantville Police Department officers were investigating an unrelated robbery when they encountered Wallace. It was discovered that Wallace had multiple active warrants. Wallace was taken into custody and found to be in possession of multiple tablets of unprescribed oxycodone. On August 16, 2025, Absecon Police Department officers were dispatched to a residence around Oyster Bay Road in reference to a disturbance with a 911 hang up. When police arrived, they spoke to Wallace, who advised that he was in an altercation with his girlfriend. Sentencing is scheduled for August 14, 2026

Amazon Fulfillment Center

The construction of an Amazon fulfillment center at the location of the former Atlantic City Race Course is nearing completion. Amazon obtaining a building permit is the project's next milestone, according to Robert Goodman, the township's director of community development. The proposal was approved by the local Planning Board on May 21.

Millville Man Sentenced

According to the Cumberland County Prosecutor's Office, a Millville man was given a 45-year jail sentence on Thursday for a 2022 murder at an apartment building in Bridgeton. In March 2025, Ryan Askins, 32, was convicted of aggravated manslaughter, possession of a weapon for an illegal purpose, and certain persons not to possess a handgun. On July 30, 2022, Askins shot and killed Herbert Lee Jr. at the Maplewood Gardens apartment complex off South East Avenue. According to a news release from the Prosecutor's Office, Askins was barred from owning weapons because of a previous conviction.

Breeze Airways

U.S. Representative Jeff Van Drew, R-2nd, stated on Thursday that Breeze Airways is growing to include the flights that were dropped at Atlantic City International Airport after Spirit Airlines failed last month. After failing to reach a deal on a government bailout, Spirit shut down on May 2. At Atlantic City International, the airline was a significant commercial carrier. Spirit blamed recent spikes in oil prices and other pressures for the suspension. In June 1992, Spirit started operating flights from Atlantic City, connecting the airport to locations in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and Florida.

New hotel rooms, family attractions, eating options, and entertainment options are all part of the summer expansion that the Showboat Resort Atlantic City announced on Wednesday. New hotel rooms, an outdoor carnival, an attraction with a dinosaur theme, a Nerf war arena, more retail space on Boardwalk, and improvements to its indoor waterpark are all included in the development. According to Showboat, the additions solidify its standing as the biggest non-casino hotel in New Jersey.

Pleasantville Latest Site Of Positive WNV Sample

A mosquito pool from Pleasantville is Atlantic County’s second sample to test positive for West Nile Virus in Atlantic County this season.The sample was taken from the 400 block of Montclair Avenue last Wednesday and tested positive Tuesday. BreakingAC.com reports the first positive sample was found in the 1200 block of Zion Road in Northfield on May 20, and confirmed last week.

Lawsuit Claims Abuse Case Against AC Mayor Was Driven By Politics

The criminal case against Atlantic City’s mayor, schools superintendent and high school principal was about politics not justice, a lawsuit filed this week alleges. According to BreakingAC.com, Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds knew the claims of abuse made by Mayor Marty Small’s teenage daughter were false, but “seized the opportunity” to conspire with “certain Republican politicians” in an attempt to unseat Small and take away the power of the three black Democratic leaders based upon political affiliation and race, the 17-page filing states.The three-count civil suit filed by the mayor’s father-son criminal defense team of Lou and Jordan Barbone cites selective enforcement, civil rights violations and malicious prosecution.

Pleasantville Mosquitos

Atlantic County officials announced on Wednesday that a mosquito sample from Pleasantville has tested positive for the West Nile virus, marking the second positive result this year. The most recent positive sample was taken from the 400 block of Montclair Avenue on May 27 by the Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control, and it was confirmed positive on Tuesday. After being taken from the 1200 block of Zion Road in Northfield, the first positive sample was verified last week.

New Info On Man Killed In Officer Involved Shooting In AC

An Atlantic City man killed in a shooting this week that wounded two Atlantic City police officers was a convicted killer who spent three decades in and out of prison. According to BreakingAC.com, Donald Capriotti, 52, died Tuesday afternoon when a search warrant being served in the 100 block of North Florida Avenue turned into gunfire. Two Atlantic City police officers were wounded. Capriotti was pronounced dead.

Hamilton Township Data Center

A move to put a moratorium on data center building is being pursued by the Hamilton Township Committee. On Monday night, the committee proposed an ordinance that would prohibit data center construction until the year's end. The ordinance will be the subject of a public hearing on June 15 at the municipal building on 13th Street at 6:30 p.m. Township representatives will continue to investigate the center's effects on communities throughout that time and provide the committee with a report.
